Guest Book Review: The Girl in the Steel Corset by Kady Cross, reviewed by LovLivLife Reviews

I’m back after a short vacation and very pleased to welcome Chasity, a book blogger whose site, LovLivLife Reviews, discusses many terrific books of interest.  In keeping with the Victorian and Steampunk theme, Chasity has been kind enough to give me permission to repost her review of Kady Cross’s The Girl In the Steel Corset.

Aloha Book Lovers.  I’m Chas and I blog about books out of my little grass hut in Hawaii.  The lack of outlets and a consist power source make online surfing hard but I make due.  Just Kidding- Bad joke!  I have no hut but I do a lot of blogging.  LovLivLife Reviews is my virtual home for all things bookish.  Paranormal Romance, Urban Fantasy and more recently Sci-Fi Romance/Space Opera and Steampunk Romance novels are my picks of poison.  And let me say, more poisonous the better.  I enjoy equal doses of action, paranormal, and steamy attraction.  If you have similar reading tastes then come on by and say “Hello.”

Here’s the blurb:
In 1897 England, sixteen-year-old Finley Jayne has no one…except the “thing” inside her.

When a young lord tries to take advantage of Finley, she fights back. And wins. But no normal Victorian girl has a darker side that makes her capable of knocking out a full-grown man with one punch….

Only Griffin King sees the magical darkness inside her that says she’s special, says she’s one of them. The orphaned duke takes her in from the gaslit streets against the wishes of his band of misfits: Emily, who has her own special abilities and an unrequited love for Sam, who is part robot; and Jasper, an American cowboy with a shadowy secret.

Griffin’s investigating a criminal called The Machinist, the mastermind behind several recent crimes by automatons. Finley thinks she can help—and finally be a part of something, finally fit in.

But The Machinist wants to tear Griff’s little company of strays apart, and it isn’t long before trust is tested on all sides. At least Finley knows whose side she’s on—even if it seems no one believes her.

And here’s the review:

Rating: 5/5 Stars

Wow.  Fantastic Steampunk novel with everything you can imagine.

Finley is a mystery that I very much enjoyed reading.  She is different from others out there and she knows it all to well.  After another incident that causes Finley to hightail it her down and out luck finally changes.

The characters in this novel are phenomenal.  Each character is tailored with his or her own history, abilities and personality.  Author, Kady Cross has outdone herself.  I am surely a fan of her work.

The highlight of The Girl in the Steel Corset is the storyline.  The Machinist is out for blood and it is up to Griffin and his ragtag crew to piece together the puzzle and execute a solution.  As the storyline unravels holes are filled and questions are answered.  Another highlight is Finley herself.  I thoroughly enjoyed her character and her potential suitors.  Griffin and Jack Dandy are both riveting characters.  Each bring something the other does not to the story and so I must read and and see where this goes.
